Hoornse Vaart Midden Delfland
Principal: Ontwikkelcombinatie Van der Leij – Staedion
Location: Den Hoorn (NL)
Type of project: newly built houses
Number of houses: 14
At a terrain or site at the Tanthofkade in Den Hoorn, only a stone’s throw from Delft, Van der Leij Bouwbedrijven and Staedion will realise 14 energy efficient, houses with access at ground level. The project consists of 10 semidetached houses in the higher price range and 4 starters’ houses in the social rental housing segment .
The houses are designed (architect Inbo) in accordance with the principle of the passive house. The passive house concept is based on two design principles: reduction of heat loss (due to high-quality insulation and heat recovery via ventilation air) and the optimisation of heat profits (due to a favourable orientation of floor plans and facade openings). As such a house is created which requires 80% less energy for space heating. The passive house is an established concept in German speaking countries; however, in the Netherlands the concept is not actually used. The EFL has the objective to have the Dutch market adopt this concept, whereby a call will be made on the extensive knowledge within its European network. For the certification of passive houses, a cooperation with authorised knowledge institutes in Germany has been established.
In Hoornsche Vaart an innovative Dutch construction method is used in order to realise a high insulation value of the shell of the building: the Veerhuis EPS construction system. This system consists of non-bearing exterior walls made from 300 mm EPS (polystyrene foam), finished with a reinforced plaster layer. With this a light, strong shell of a building is created with a very high insulation value (Rc > 7 m2K/W). The remaining heat requirement is largely covered by solar energy, generated by thermal collectors.
Project Hoornsche Vaart is currently in the designing phase. The start of the construction works is planned for mid 2009.
