Floating Homes Duisburg
Concept
With the introduction of two modern houseboats in Duisburg’s inner harbor, the THS Wohnen adds a new chapter of the popular theme of “Living-on water”. The identical EFL ”water homes” offer on two floors of 125 square meters of housing , including a spacious terrace and use of water and sun as a renewable energy source.
We need more attractive, flexible forms of housing for creative target groups who are looking for an urban environment with a special ambience . Just as we adapt our existing accommodation for existing residents continuously and develop living arrangements for seniors or young families in conjunction with social services. The extensive water areas of the region as an attractive residential area is detected, but so far a no elevated treasure. “Floating homes” – ie “floating houses” – are by the elevation of the water a growing issue and the chance of a spatial and atmospheric density of urban open spaces as an outstanding and exclusive form of housing. THS takes this theme at different locations in Germany now as a future-oriented task of housing industry in a pilot project.
EFL Project
The project is based on the Amsterdam Water Homes of EFL member “Eigen Haard”. In the IJburg district, Eigen Haard realised about 25 Floating Homes.
Water sites reinterpreted
For several years, the region comes under the label “metropoleruhr” on the real estate fair Expo Real in Munich with the theme “water environment”. Provide the often untapped potential for the once so important water for the industrialization of waterways and port facilities along the Ruhr, the Rhine-Herne Canal and the Lippe. In a preliminary study, the project developer of THS have found that already today exists along the main water systems nine active marinas, which provide all technical conditions for the use of houseboats, for example, in Bochum, Essen on Baldeneysee in Recklinghausen or in Dorsten.
Projectdevelopment
For the realisation of the project, THS made use of the concept of Climate Construction. The construction of the Floating Homes itself was in the hands of the Amsterdam EFL member Van der Leij Bouwbedrijven.
