Polylogis Group from Paris newest member of EFL
During the General Assembly in The Hague (november 30 2012), the French PolyLogis Group has been welcomed as the newest member of EFL. The total number of members has now grown to 18, including four new members in 2012.
Polylogis is one of the largest housing companies from France, managing a housing portfolio of more than 60.000 units and a construction rate of over 2.000 appartments per year. PolyLogis Group is represented in the northwest of France, the west part and in the south. With a yearly turnover of about 390 million euro, the average rent level is about 540€ per month.
The company is an active participant in European projects: currently Logirep, one of the subsidiaries from Paris, leads the European project “SHELTER” , - 07-11-2012
EFL General Assembly in The Hague, November 22 & 23
On November 22 and 23, housing association Staedion from The Hague, hosts the bi-anual General Assembly of EFL members. The open part of this event takes place in the morning of November 23. This part is open for professionals from the housing and real estate sector. Venue location EFL Assembly: the spectecular New Babylon. This multi- functional hotspot of The Hague with hotel, apartments, offices and shops, recently opened its doors (click here for more info). The EFL meeting will take place in the conference center.
EFL invited one of the architects of this building from the world class office Meyer & Van Schooten. He will introduce the guests to this spectacular building and give a keynote speech about current developments in architecture.
Other speeches will be given by Dirk Lönnecker, CEO of the Berlin housing association “1892″, Benjamin Ulrich about Intelligent Homes, he is director of the french Intent Technologies, Prof. Dr. Henk Visscher from the TU Delft and Han Moerkerken, director of Moerkerken & Broekzitter, about a high tech calculation model of construction costs. All in all a very interesting and varied program. And above all a unique opportunity for international networking.

New member from UK in EFL
Recently, the english housing association “Circle Group” from London joined the European Federation for Living. Circle is a Group consisting of nine English housing associations together with a telecare business, a Care and Support business and a commercial division. The total residential portfolio comprises circa 63.000 dwellings. While the Group is not-for-profit and is registered as charitable the commercial subsidiary is non-charitable and is able to undertake market sale and rent activity, directing any surpluses back into the core social business.
Circle recognize that there are important opportunities to work more closely with our European colleagues to share ideas and best practice and also to make the best use of those opportunities that may come within the next period under the European structural funds

EFL in German Press
The German Magazine “Die Wohnungswirtschaft” published in its edition of June 2012 two articles related to the European Federation for Living. The start of the EU project called “I Stay at Home” in Bamberg under management of EFL member Joseph Stiftung and the entry of the german housing association “Wiederaufbau” from Braunschweig. Eigen Haard/ EFL Project Koningsvrouwen Landlust wins National Renovation Award
The Eigen Haard/ EFL Project “The Koningsvrouwen van Landlust” in Amsterdam is the winner of the National Renovation Award “Gulden Feniks”. The award has been handed over during the Dutch Real Estate Fair “Provada” on Thursday June 5 2012 in Amsterdam.
The preparations of this project started in 2007 as the first EFL project. Especially during the first phase, expertise form over the entire network was used to get the most innovative solutions practised in Amsterdam.
This Eigen Haard/ EFL project is selected and chosen as the best Sustainable Renovation project in the Netherlands.
The project received its award on the following grounds:
- Perfect restoration to the original plans of 1937
- Innovative renewable energy concept
- Intensive communication process with the tenants
- Affordable rents after the renovation
The project consists of two monumental buildings of totally 240 social housing dwellings. It’s an example of the first open block parcellation in Amsterdam.

KEOTO new Swiss EFL Associate
The Swiss architecture and engineering office KEOTO from Zurich recently entered EFL as new associate. KEOTO is specialised in integral sustainable design, zero emission housing and modelling of building processes. They make use of Building Information Models, in which the output of a design process give optimal information about the design itself, the costs and the energy use. Within EFL this expertise will be used in project- development. Added value for EFL is also foreseen as result of the strong connection with the ETH Zurich and the building industry. The first results of the partcipation will be shown in a new development project in Gorlitz (Germany). Information about KEOTO can be found in this link.

German Housing Association Wiederaufbau new EFL Member
The German Wohnungsgenossenschaft “Wiederaufbau”, located in the Braunschweig region of Lower Saxony, has entered the EFL membership on March 23 in Düsseldorf. This housing association manages a portfolio of more than 10.000 dwellings and is one of the largest housing associations in Germany. With a total equity over 100 € million, a solvency rate of 27% and EDIBTA of 20,7 € Million, its a financial strong company. Average rent level is 5€ per square meter.
The main goals of the membership to EFL are sharing know- how with European partners, learning from best practices and concrete collaboration in projects. Of special interest are refurbishment of the older housing stock, new energetic buildings, customer adapted dwellings for defined target groups and cost efficient construction.

EFL Member Eigen Haard on Dutch TV Series “ The Housing Corporation”
The Amsterdam Housing Corporation ” Eigen Haard” stands in the spotlight in the TV series ” De Wooncorporatie” (the Housing Association).
The series starts Tuesday 13 March at 19,25 hours and will be transmitted weekly for the ten coming weeks. The broadcast station is Nederland 1.
Employees of “ Eigen Haard” have been followed in recent months with the TV camera filming their daily work. The result is the ten-part television series “ The Wooncorporatie” from the NCRV (Dutch broadcast organisation). The series gives a special but realistic picture of their daily work. You can see how their employees solve problems and put their heart and soul to the living enjoyment of the residents and tenants.Besides the daily ups and downs of the colleagues, the spectator will be introduced to the residents, each with its own story. In the districts where the series is filmed live more than a hundred different nationalities. Each district is home to people from different backgrounds, lifestyles and experiences. Each episode offers a fascinating image with moving, confronting and funny moments.

Eigen Haard is particularly proud that their tenants and employees in this docusoap are at the forefront. European Housing Seminar EFL- VdW Rheinland Westfalen March 23
On March 23, the European Federation for Living (EFL) and the German Association of Real Estate and Housing in the Bundesland North Rhine Westfalia (VdW Rheinland Westfalen) , organize together the seminar “European Thinking in the Housing Sector”. The seminar takes place at the offices of the NRW Bank in Düsseldorf.
Goal of the European Seminar is to share ideas and experiences between actors in the housing sector and to stimulate cooperation in Europe . EFL and VdW Rheinland Westfalen are both strongly committed to cooperation and learning from each other. Participants from Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands and Switzerland are present.
The seminar will be visited by CEO’s of housing associations, representatives from the public sector and universities, real estate developers and building companies.
The General Consul of the Dutch consulate in Düsseldorf, Mr. Henk Voskamp will welcome the guests . After the seminar, the guests are offered an excursion to energy efficient “solar” projects in Düsseldorf. These projects are realized by housing company “Rheinwohnungsbau” from Düsseldorf. EFL Project “IStay@Home” approved for EU Subsidy !
A group of 15 European organisations from 5 EU contries has passed the assesment of the INTERREG NWE Programme with a positive outcome . The project “IStay”@Home” is focussed on the improvement of living conditions of elderly people and a longer stay within their homes. With the aid of modern technology, home domotics, a Wiki based information Portal for elderly and improved use of electronic devices, different pilot projects in the participating cities will be equiped. The participating housing companies originate from London, Bamberg, Düsseldorf, Antwerp, Gent, Lille, Reims, The Hague and Enschede. The group is lead by EFL member Joseph Stiftung from Bamberg. Official start of the project is expected in April 2012.
