EFL supported International Housing Summit Rotterdam
On November 2 the International Summit for Housing took place in Rotterdam.
The Summit is the only global Forum for the affordable housing sector.It brings together senior practicers to share best practicre with collegues as they seek lasting solutions to common challenges and make connections that bring long term rewards for their business.
About 160 professionals from 22 countries gathered these fantastic days of learning, debate, networking and inspiring interaction with their international peers.
EFL staffmember Peter Hoogeweg hosted a round table discussion around the theme “the future of affordable housing”. EFL Managing Director Joost Nieuwenhuijzen took part in a plenary discussion panel , which was dedicated to the added value of international cooperation in the housing sector.

EFL Partnership finished Interreg Call for EU Funding
A group of 14 European companies delivered on October 7 the finished application of an EU -Interreg subsidy. Lead partner of the consortium IStay@Home is the Joseph Stiftung, member of the European Federation for Living. The projects goal is to realize an ICT platform for European housing companies, filled with ICT based solutions for the improvement of independent living for elderly people. Apart from a “wiki”based overview of all available products and services in the field of home automation and domotics, the platform will be able to connect tenants with (care) service providers and other intelligent solutions. The EFL was responsible for the search and commitment of partner companies within the consortium.

Berlin GEWOBAG- EFL Seminar on social integration succesful
The Berlin municipal Housing company GEWOBAG (> 70.000 managed apartments) hosted a two day European seminar for the housing industry. GEWOBAG CEO Mr Hendrik Jellema showed the 20 experts from EFL and the Eurhonet group the efforts which GEWOBAG undertakes to improve the social -economic situation in Berlin neighborhoods. Tenant participation, the succesful project of a boxing school for underpriviliged children from migrant backgrounds, neighborhood management; all instruments to make the difference. Sharing knowledge and experiences were central in the discussions thereafter. During the seminar, the Berlin State Secretary Mr Hella Löper Dunger presented the Neighborhood Approach in which residents are fully involved in taking dsecisions within their neighborhood.
The scienctific view was given by Mrs. Prof . Dr. Talja Blokland, professor at the Humboldt University of Berlin and formed Professor at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam.
The second part of the seminar was devoted to the exchange of experiences. Mr Chretien Mommers, director of the Amsterdam Housing Company Eigen Haard (> 40.000 apartments in Amsterdam region), presented the EFL modell for neigborhood analysis, based on the strategy of Eigen Haard itself. The two day seminar was chaired by Mr Joost Nieuwenhuijzen, managing director of EFL. Housing experts from Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Sweden were present.

EFL Director on regional German Television
During a day filling congress on Friday September 23 in the German city of Münster dedicated on discussing new opportunities to realize affordable housing and informing the audience about actual trends on the German housing market, two foreign speakers were asked to give their view based on the experiences in their own country. The Swedisch director of SABO (Swedish Association of public housing companies), Mr Kurt Eliasson, highlighted the system for public housing in Sweden and recent trends. The Dutch side was presented by Joost Nieuwenhuijzen, managing director of the EFL. The regional television WMTV interviewed him for giving his vision on the German housing market and what Germany could eventually learn from Dutch experiences. GEWOBAG- EFL- EURHONET Conference Berlin 26-28 October
The Berlin housing company GEWOBAG, member of EFL, hosts a three day Conference of the European Housing Industry.
The conference deals with the challenges of European metropolitan areas regarding Social- Economic Development, Social Integration and approaches of Neighborhood improvement.
The Conference is opened by GEWOBAG CEO Mr. Hendrik Jellema and Joost Nieuwenhuijzen, managing director of EFL. On Monday 26 October, the Berlin State Secretary of Urban Development, Mrs. Hella Dunger Löper, will present a new report on Participation in Berlin.
On thuesday 27 of October, Mrs. Prof Talja Blokland of the Humbolt University, will held a recitation about a recent research report on place making and neighborhood change. She is appointed in 2009 on the Chair of Urban and Regional Sociology. The conference is visited by circa 20 professionals from the housing industry from Germany, Sweden, Italy, The Netherlands and France. The Chairman of the EFL Working Group “Social Domain” is the Dutch Mr. Chretien Mommers, director at housing company “Eigen Haard” from Amsterdam. He will present the latest EFL Portfolio modell with analysis tools and strategies for housing companies to improve livebility of neighborhoods. This modell is based on the working practice of Housing Company Eigen Haard (Amsterdam). It will be discussed whether this model can also be used at GEWOBAG housing company in Berlin.

Vilogia France New EFL member
The French housing company Vilogia joined EFL during the General Assembly on June 24 2011. Vilogia manages a portfolio of more than 75.000 dwellings throughout France in the Nord Pas-de-Calais / Ile-de-France / Grand Ouest / Grand Est / Rhône-Alpes. Reasons for Vilogia to become EFL member are:

related to the core-businesses of Vilogia and sustainable development / city development / sustainable construction.To be part of european size projects like I-STAY@HOME®.
To develop – in the mid-term – business with the members,

New EFL Chairman
During the EFL General Assembly on March 18 in Berlin, the members elected Arne Myckert as the new chairman of EFL. Former chairman Rob van der Leij decided at the end of 2010 to take a step back, thus creating a vacancy for this position.
Arne Myckert is CEO of the German housing company “WBG Gorlitz”.
